Gutters are often taken for granted by homeowners who don’t necessarily understand the important role they play. They are narrow channels or troughs that run around the edge of the roof. Whenever rain falls onto the roof and runs down it, the gutters collect the water and channels it down into a special drain at the bottom of a property, to prevent it from causing foundation damage and protect the surfaces of its exterior and entering into the house. Gutters can also lead the rainwater away to a special tank, where it can be stored for use in the garden or home later.
A roof is the top covering of a building, including all materials and constructions necessary to support it on the walls of the building or on uprights; it provides protection against rain, snow, sunlight, extremes of temperature, and wind.
